A Taste of Things to Come

by Jean Knight Pace

Hey all! I’ve been working hard the last year and a half and will have a bunch of books coming out in 2022. Here’s a little taste of what’s to come.

First off (the longest project in the works), my co-writer Jacob Kennedy, and I have been working on a six-book (6! whew!) Middle Grade sci-fantasy series. Here’s a teaser if you’re interested.

Someone wants to kill Henry’s dad, and he’ll do anything to stop it. Even if that means keeping secrets. Big ones.

Thirteen-year-old Henry Miller knows he’s not typical. And it’s not just because he’s the president’s son. When a mysterious assassin, known as the Ethereal, attacks him after school, Henry uncovers a strange power: the world slows down while he speeds up—stronger and faster than his short, stout body has ever been. If only Henry could call upon this strange strength at will, he might be able to help some people, and to be seen as his own person instead of just a politician’s kid.

But for now, he has to navigate the White House world of ushers and antiques, maids and security. As if that’s not bad enough, there’s his fancy new school with its daunting principal and the snotty senator’s daughter, Reylin. In the midst of it all, Henry feels a little lost and a lot useless.

Until he and his best friend Lucy uncover a plot to assassinate his father.

But the closer Henry gets to finding the assassin, the more he begins to wonder if it’s really the president at stake. Or if he’s just a pawn in a chess game where they need to find the king.

Secondly, I’ve been working on a collection of essays with my paramedic husband. They chronicle some of the highlights (and plenty of low-lights) of his 23 years working in EMS as an EMT, paramedic, and flight medic.

We’re still battling out a title for it, even though it should release in January (probably the first of all the books I’ve been working on to release). Right now we’re playing with calling it Night Life: Essays from a Paramedic, Thoughts from his Wife. If you’ve got amazing title suggestions, send them to me. If we use someone’s, I’ll cowboy up a $20 gift card to Amazon! (Other titles in the running: In the Custody of Strangers (though this one has a bit of a cop feel to it) and At the Table of Strangers and A Thousand Ways to Die–They’d all have that long-ish subtitle too, unless someone suggests a more amazing one!)

If one of these is really striking to you, please comment and let me know.

Finally, I’ve been working on a four-book group of women’s fiction books. The first is called From Ashes (again, a working title that could change).

It’s about Aiden–a firefighter trying to raise his daughter alone after his wife dies of cancer. Finding love is not at the top of his priority list. Sometimes, however, love finds you. But this time, it comes with strings attached.

So we’ve got a little for everyone, or a lot for a few of you. Here’s to the upcoming year!
